Medicare Extra Help: where to check eligibility
Medicare Extra Help: where to check eligibility
What costs can Extra Help assist with?
Medicare identifies drug premiums, deductibles, coinsurance and other costs as areas of assistance. The benefit is tied to eligibility and program rules. This page does not publish a threshold that could become outdated.
Where should I apply?
Start with Social Security’s official Part D Extra Help application route. Some people qualify automatically through other assistance. Read the current guidance before applying, and keep any notice you receive.
Is Extra Help the same as a Medicare Savings Program?
They address different coverage costs. Medicare says you can apply for both at the same time. Review each program rather than assuming an application to one resolves every cost.
What should I prepare?
Use the official application instructions to prepare the information requested. Store financial records privately. Do not send Social Security numbers or account records through this site.
| Item | What it means |
|---|---|
| Extra Help | Assistance with eligible drug coverage costs. |
| Medicare Savings Programs | Assistance with eligible Part A or Part B costs. |
| Payment plan | Spreads drug payments; does not itself reduce the cost. |
