A simple box inventory method
- Choose a short unique ID. K01 could be a kitchen box and B01 a bedroom box. Use the same ID on the box and the inventory.
- Describe contents briefly. “Mugs and tea supplies” is useful. Keep valuables, document numbers and sensitive details out of the list and off the outside of boxes.
- Separate the stages. Packed does not mean delivered. Delivered does not mean unpacked. Record each stage when it actually happens.
- Prioritize the first evening. Keep chargers, toiletries, bedding and other essentials in a bag that stays with you. Make a usable sleeping area before opening every box.
Check a contradiction
If K01 is marked Unpacked but not Delivered, check the record before changing everything to complete. If two boxes share K01, give one a new ID and update its physical label. Keep one clear next action for any missing box.
Keep provider updates separate
Track the action and target date without storing account numbers, passwords or exact addresses in your planner. Make updates directly with each provider. US movers can consult USPS mail forwarding guidance and USAGov’s address update guide. The checklist does not submit changes or pay provider fees.
